When it comes to using hypnosis to tackle anxiety there are two types of product on the market, audio and books (there are also DVDs and videos but as you will have your eyes closed they seem to have little over their audio counterparts).
Firstly, does self hypnosis or audio hypnosis work for anxiety and panic attacks? Yes, it can do. Of course a therapists will tailor make a hypnosis script just for you, where as when you buy a CD, tape or mp3 you have to stick with a generalized version (though you can personalise one that you get from a book).

Is clinical hypnosis a cure all? Sometimes its proponents claim it to be. It is said to be effective for stopping smoking, weight loss and sexual performance as well as a range of psychological problems such as anxiety and phobias. Some people also believe in medical hypnosis which can actually change your physiology. Learning hypnosis is fairly easy but therapists should have undergone the proper training, and not be stage hypnotist. Certainly hypnosis can bring about positive change. There are numerous hypnotic techniques including Ericksonian (pioneered by Erickson).
