contents - Introduction
When Anxiety 2 Calm was about six months old I realised it was impossible to navigate through the mass of information that I had assembled. I started to think about how to redesign the site so people could find what they were looking for. I decided to set up this programme as a way of taking people through everything one step at a time and giving them enough basic information and links to everything else they might need to effect a cure for their anxiety themselves or to seek help from the right quarters. It is, in a way, a never ending task.

What this programme is:

This programme is, therefore, what you might get from reading a stack of books on anxiety and panic attacks, visiting a host of both conventional and alternative therapists, and speaking to many fellow sufferers over the course of more than a decade. The result is a bulk of free information and ideas which can easily be sifted and managed.

What this programme is not:

It is not a magical instant cure. It is not a panecea. You should always speak to your doctor before you attempt any treatment. You should read the disclaimer and accept that this website is created by an ex-anxiety-sufferer, a laymen, for reference purposes. The ideas and information are given as personal experience and any attempt to work on your anxiety is purely your own responsibility. Because various things worked for me and others that I have spoken to does not guarantee that it will work for you.

The object of this programme is for you to find a way to overcome your anxiety, panic attacks, and phobias. What does it mean to overcome anxiety? It could be either of the following:

  • To live a decent but constricted life where anxiety, in one of its forms, is always hanging over you.
  • Learning to deal with your symptoms, accepting them so they no longer interfere with your life.
  • A complete and total eradication of all mental and physical symptoms.

What's the difference between those who have to suffer their anxiety and phobias for life and those who achieve a complete recovery? Some people say it's all in the body, they have a physical problem. In most cases I believe that the core of anxiety is in the head. Through tackling anxiety in the right way chemical imbalances can be normalized and neural pathways changed. What's different about those who achieve complete success is that they take responsibility, build determination and self belief, understand that they have what they need inside them, and NEVER try and explain away their problems through physical or chemical phenomena that can not be changed. In short, the extent to which you can recover depends on you.
