EFT and TFT - Cures for Anxiety and Depression?
EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) and TFT (Thought Field Therapy) are differing versions of the same technique, that of tapping various meridian points of the body while tuning into a sensation, thought or feeling which causes anxiety or a panic attack to set in. In both EFT and TFT the meridian points are tapped in a certain sequence. EFT is the simpler of the two as it involves just one tapping sequence for all conditions, while TFT has various sequences of varying complexity, called algorithms, which are related to specific complaints. The theory goes that through tapping these points, a number of times, unwanted emotions can be made to disappear. Anxiety, for instance, can be cured without pain or having to relive emotionally traumatic events. While you can visit a therapist for this treatment you can also easily learn it from a book.

It should be stressed that these therapies have not been scientifically validated. Peer reviewed, scientific support for this method is, as you would guess, in short supply. TFT has slightly more scientific evidence behind it. It is said that doctors and psychotherapists used it to good effect after the Kosovo war to treat trauma victims. When it comes to anxiety, panic attacks, and phobias I urge you to approach it with an open mind and be your own judge.
If you have complex phobias, panic attacks or generalized anxiety Disorder you may need to use TFT or EFT on various areas of your life before you are likely to see an improvement. Sometimes visiting a trained therapist is best in these circumstances. That said, they can be expensive and books are cheaper. Always check with your doctor or other healthcare professional before starting any new treatment.
